Frequently Asked Questions
Because innovation sparks many questions, here’s a few answers that might help you get to know us better.
Who is PYRATEX®?
We are an R&D company and textile supplier. We research innovative fibers to develop functional knit fabrics. The fibers we use are ground-breakingly natural, regenerative or recycled. The properties in our fabrics come from the fiber itself and are tested by independent European institutes.
Where is PYRATEX® based?
PYRATEX® is based in Madrid, Spain. We produce in Italy, Spain and Portugal, and have recently started doing so in Mexico for our America-based clients. All our Stock orders are being delivered from our warehouse based in Coslada, Madrid.
What does PYRATEX® offer?
We are textile suppliers and provide our clients, which are Fashion brands, with fabrics or finished garments produced on demand through a certified and traceable supply chain. R&D is the core of everything we do which is why we keep expanding our PYRATEX® range with new fibers.
Do I need to buy a certain minimum?
High Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) can lead to overproduction and possibly to wastage. At PYRATEX® we understand how it is when you are a new brand or project just starting out. Therefore we made it possible to buy PYRATEX® from just one meter for prototyping before a bulk order! For productions of the colour of your choosing, the majority of our fabrics have MOQs as low as 50 meters, but there are some exceptions.
How do I buy PYRATEX® fabrics?
If you are a company, please fill in our Contact Form. The more specific you can be about the fabrics that you are looking for (target price, quantities and structure) the better.
If you are a student or an innovator working on a new project, you can now buy our fabrics online for as low as 1 meter. For more FAQs regarding the eShop, please see below.
Some of our PYRATEX® surplus fabrics are also available on Recovo. Click here to browse through our available fabrics.
Do you provide garment manufacturing services?
If your company would like to launch a production of our fabrics, but doesn’t have a garment manufacturer to work with, we can manage the garment production for you, if quantities and design are a fit.
What are your lead times?
Stock orders are sent within a couple of working days of having received payment. Lead times for bulk orders produced on demand range from 5 to 10 weeks, depending on the fabrics and order date.
How do I join the PYRATEX® team?
We post all our job openings on FashionJobs and LinkedIn -- have a look, and apply if you feel you fit what we're looking for!
ABOUT PYRATEX®
MORE ABOUT PYRATEX® FABRICS
What type of fabrics do you sell?
PYRATEX® fabrics are high-quality and traceable fabrics, produced locally in circular knitting machines with bio-based and/or recycled fibers. The structures you can find in our range our single jerseys, fleeces, interlocks, ribs, piqués, etc. These fabrics are typically used for Tees, Sweatshirts, Active Wear, Dresses, etc.
What properties do your fabrics have? How are these proven?
Our PYRATEX® fabrics have functional properties that come from the fiber. We know that the initial properties, inherent to the plant, are still present as we have the product tested by European textile institutes during several stages of the production process.
These are the properties you can find in our fabrics:
Anti-bacterial
Cooling effect
Free radical elimination
UV protection
Skincare
Quick dry
Water absorption
Anti irritation
Warmth retention
Negative ions emission
IR radiation reflection
What fibers do you work with?
We aim to replace synthetic materials with natural ones, better for our health, and better for the planet. Some of the innovative fibers we work with come from
Chemically recycled cotton
Recycled polycotton
Degradable polyester
Sustainability is a journey, and we know switching from synthetic fabrics to natural ones may be challenging. For this reason, our PYRATEX® active fabrics are made with bio-based polyamide, and we also work with degradable elastane - a middle ground for those brands willing to start their sustainability journey.
ABOUT OUR IMPACT
How are you responsible?
We are on a mission to help the fashion industry transition to a more sustainable future. We aim to replace virgin and synthetic fibers with innovative recycled, regenerative or biobased alternatives which consume less water, energy or CO2 during their production process.
PYRATEX® is B Corp certified and we work with a number of certifications at the fiber, yarn and final fabric level, such as GRS, GOTS, FSC or Oeko-Tex 100.
We develop our PYRATEX® formulas from the fiber level, which allows us to build the best production chain from the fiber to the final fabric. This makes our fabrics 100% traceable. We have partnered up with BCome to produce impact reports on every PYRATEX® fabric. These reports detail how much water, CO2 and pesticides have been used during the production of the fabrics and how much was saved compared to similar traditional fabrics.
A responsible fabric is a durable one: we focus on making our PYRATEX® fabrics following high-quality standards, ensuring good pilling, shrinkage, and colour fastness. Producing on-demand and only producing the amount our clients order allows us to avoid overproduction and therefore waste.
If you are interested in knowing more about our impact goals you can download our Impact Strategy here.
What dyes do you use?
We use reactive dyes. They create a bond with the fiber, making them very durable. Aside from using 90% less chemicals than fully synthetic dyeing, we recycle the water used in our dying process, reducing our impact to a minimum. For more information about our dying process, click here.
Compared to natural dyes, reactive dyes use less water and have much better colourfastness results, which is why we use reactive dyes.
Can you print on your fabrics?
As we work with natural fibers, we do not recommend printing on our fabrics: most printing methods involve chemicals, which remove the inherent properties of our PYRATEX® fabrics.
ABOUT THE ESHOP
How can I check in the eShop which colors are available in stock?
We offer a variety of fabric colours to choose from! Here's how to explore them on our website:
Navigate to the product page of the fabric you're interested in.
If there are, you can see available color options as small photos under the main photo
Click on “add to cart” and a window opens with a drop-down menu with all available colours for that fabric.
For each colour, corresponding photos are displayed to give you a realistic view of the fabric. Browse the color options and select your preferred one
Can I get samples before ordering stock?
Yes, you can either compose your own selection of swatches or select a swatch pack per type of usage. Just go to our eShop landing page and select one of the options in the banner (Swatch packs, Personalized Swatches). You can also go directly to the Stock Service to view the available fabrics in stock. Then visit the product page of the fabric you like to buy and browse in the foot of the product page the related products to find the corresponding swatch.
Are colors managed when ordering swatches?
When ordering fabric swatches, specific colours cannot be selected or guaranteed. Fabric swatches aim to provide information regarding the look and feel of the fabric and colors of the swatches are sent based on availability. For precise colour selection, we recommend viewing the product photos online or contacting our team for further assistance.
Do prices include VAT?
The prices shown are without VAT and VAT (21%) is added at the time of check-out.
I am a company. Can I place an order without VAT?
Yes, but VAT-exempt orders must be processed through our Business Development team. To get started, please fill out the contact form and provide as much information about the fabric you are sourcing. Once submitted, our team will review your request and assist you with completing your VAT-free order.

What is a surcharge, and why is it added?
As is custom in the textile industry, a surcharge is an additional fee of 25% added to the Price of fabric to cover the cost of a manual cutting service required at our warehouse. If you are interested in purchasing a roll of fabric, we are not applying a surcharge.
If you later place a bulk production order (minimal 50 m), this surcharge will be discounted from your final invoice. This means that while the surcharge helps us cover the added costs for smaller, customised stock orders, it will not apply to larger, more standardized production orders.
What is your return policy?
As the fabric is cut especially for the client we cannot accept returns, unless the product received does not correspond to the product ordered.
Why are you requesting to sign a MNDA and what is it?
PYRATEX® is a start-up company which invests heavily in Research & Development in order to bring innovative fiber solutions to the market as scalable high-quality fabrics, ready to be used by designers and brands. PYRATEX® products are based on various sources of creativity and specific expertises. We often work with new brands, people from the industry who are launching new innovative projects and who confide in PYRATEX® to bring them to market. In order to protect our Intellectual Property and of our customers, we ask all potential clients to sign a confidentiality agreement, a formality that forms part of our commercial process. This Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (MNDA) protects both parties and allows for information to be shared freely and it ensures our fabrics are not copied without permission.
